Situation:
Many tasks in Windows XP/2000 can be done only if you are logged on as an administrator. This article tells you how to find out if you are logged on as an administrator.

Solution:
Especially if someone else set up your computer, you may not be logged on to Windows XP/2000 as an administrator. You will need this to perform some tasks in Windows.

To see if you are logged on to Windows as an administrator

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
2. In the Open box, do one of the following:
   • In Windows XP, type the following text:
     
     control userpasswords2
     
   • In Windows 2000, type the following text:
     
     control userpasswords
     
     
3. Click OK.
4. Look at the User Accounts dialog box.
   • If you see a dialog box that has two tabs (similar to the following picture), then you are logged on as an administrator.
     
     
     
     
   • If you see a dialog box that has no tabs and has a Password box (similar to the following picture), you are not logged on as an administrator.
     
     
     
     
5. Close the dialog boxes when you have finished.
